Product Safety Overview
Most people spend up to 90% of their time indoors. Indoor air can be 10 times more polluted than outdoor air due to a high concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Indoor Air Quality Standards
FloorScore® was developed by RFCI together with Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), an independent lab, to test and certify flooring products for compliance with indoor air quality emission requirements, particularly the levels of specific VOCs.
In 2010, California Air Resource Board (CARB) rolled out the most stringent regulation regarding formaldehyde emission for hardwood and related product. This regulation is known as CARB Phase II, which dictated that formaldehyde emission be lower than 0.05ppm —- a very safe level.
Consumers Beware!
VOCs, especially formaldehyde, are known carcinogens. They can cause headaches, burning eyes, wheezing and difficulty breathing. Many flooring brands make the claim of low VOC emission, but, unless the product bears the FloorScore® and/or CARB Phase II compliance labels on its packaging, and the manufacturer can provide documentation to support its claim, you shouldn’t assume the product has met any of these indoor air quality standards.
Twelve Oaks® brand of products have all been FloorScore® certified, and our engineered product are also CARB Phase II compliant and EPA 40 C.F.R. 770 compliant.
Give Contractors & Builders the Competitive Edge
With FloorScore® certification, Twelve Oaks® products qualify for many green building schemes including LEED v4, BREEAM, and CHPS.
Our Manufacturers
All our manufacturing partners have passed the most stringent industry quality and emission standards, namely CARB-II and/or FloorScore (depending on the type of flooring product).
Ongoing Lab Testing
Every Twelve Oaks® product undergoes rigorous testing. For each category of flooring, tests are performed to ensure strict quality control and to conform to the highest industry standards. Every batch of product is closely examined by well-trained Twelve Oaks® Quality Control personnel.
Prior to shipment, every batch of product is tested in laboratories for quality and safety (including formaldehyde emission testing). Each test is documented with detailed testing results accompanied by photos to guarantee accuracy.
Independent Testing
Twelve Oaks® takes it one step further to protect our consumers. we voluntarily submit our products to SGS, a certified, independent facility for testing, on a quarterly basis. The testing parameters include, but are not limited to, abrasion and stain resistance, fire safety, formaldehyde, VOCs, stability and flexibility.
Above & Beyond
Twelve Oaks® goes far above and beyond industry norms to provide you with the best, safest floor covering products. We are among the very few elite flooring distributors to conduct such extensive testing for all our product categories.
Product Safety Certifications
FloorScore
FloorScore is a voluntary, independent certification program that tests and certifies hard surface flooring and the materials they’re made with to ensure they are in compliance with stringent indoor air quality emissions.
CARB
In 2010, California Air Resource Board (CARB) rolled out the most stringent regulation regarding formaldehyde emission for hardwood and related product. This regulation is known as CARB Phase II, which dictated that formaldehyde emission be lower than 0.05ppm —- a very safe level.
EPA
On December 12, 2016, EPA published in the Federal Register a final rule to reduce exposure to formaldehyde emissions from certain wood products produced domestically or imported into the United States. EPA worked with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to help ensure the final national rule was consistent with the California’s requirements for similar composite wood products.
